Have you ever felt that what you were told about the world while growing up does not match with the reality?
I sometimes do. But when I think about this mismatch, I feel it is rather empowering to face certain truths of life.
Most people are unable to confront their fears and end up dreaming much and doing rather less. Only a few people don’t get surprised when life throws lemons. They keep pushing for the worthy goals they set.
This is my attempt at helping all of us remember certain truths of life.
You Create Your Own Life
You need to decide what you want to do with your life. People around can only persuade you, but they cannot decide for you.
Make sure that the path you choose aligns with your intuition, inner moral compass, and desires. Don’t hesitate to switch paths or create a new one if it makes sense.
It is not fine to live a life of drudgery just because most people around feel it is the safest option. Take a passionate leap even if you don’t know where you are going to land. Be brave enough to listen to your heart!
Take a Break, It’s Not Always About Maximum Performance
You are a human, not a robot. Your mind and body are not made to deliver peak performance each minute.
The mind gets overwhelmed when you keep thrusting information into it. It freezes your mind and you can’t think straight.
Your body needs rest. Without it, your body will begin to show signs of decline and get sluggish. Give your body some rest and you will feel energized, stronger, and have a more refreshing outlook towards life.
We Need Money to Survive, But Love and Acceptance Make the Life Worthwhile
We live in a society where material wealth is considered the single most important asset for each one of us. But you should know that money can buy things which can make us happy only temporarily.
You can work all day but when you get back home, these material gains won’t console you. People who understand you, know you, are the real treasure. They sit beside you, listen to you, comfort you when you are feeling down, and feel happy when you are happy.
Don’t get too busy accumulating wealth. Valuable people make your life worthwhile.
Technology Exists Not to Limit Your Performance, Rather Help You Progress
You just need to look around. You will find many people glued to their phones or laptop instead of taking care of important things or meeting people in person.
Then they blame smartphones for taking up much of their time. Rather than cooking up healthier food, they prefer instant food just because they don’t have time for cooking. But where is all this time going?
Technology isn’t meant to enslave us. It is supposed to help us get more productive but not manipulate us.
Thinking and Doing are Very Different
Success never comes to those who wait for it.
Most people daydream, come up with great ideas, and think of doing this or that. But what happens most of the time? You are either too lazy or uninspired to get anything done.
You are what you do. Knowledge and ideas are useless without action. Must have heard that ‘good things come to those who wait.’ Well, I think good things come to those who work on their goals.
Introspect to know what is really important to you and then be brave enough to build your life around the answer. There will never come a time when you will be 100% ready to begin. And I am sure you don’t want to wait the rest of your life.
Love Yourself, Don’t Expect it from Others
How many times do you find yourself seeking others’ approval? Be it a new hat or you are switching career paths, it always feels more satisfying when others put their stamp of approval.
This comes from your deep need to feel loved and not make other people uncomfortable.
It’s important to be nice to people but it is more important to be nice and kind to yourself. To get anything done in this world, you have to love yourself. Don’t see yourself from the perspective of those who don’t value you. Love yourself despite your insecurities and flaws.
Life Often Gives Experiences You Wouldn’t Like
Nobody likes to be thrown a curve ball. It challenges you and upsets a set pattern of things that you get used to over time.
Life has a knack of not always serving things we order. Before success comes a series of failures. Most people get bitter after facing a few setbacks in life. They expect life to be fair, but it never is.
Begin to look at difficult experiences as learning tools. Embrace them with a positive attitude. Before you know it, they will be history.
Would you like to add something to this list? Which important lessons do you find difficult to admit?
